Holiday Memories. A very large Santa at 16 inches in height and 9 inches in diameter, painted in snowy, festive holiday scenes of children completely around the carving. The scene on the back of Santa shows four children frollicking around a large snowman with numerous birds, squirrels and even a couple of dogs and a cat partaking in the winter fun. The front of Santa has three more children dancing around their Christmas tree with baskets of fresh fruit and pastries sitting in the snow. Santa carries a leather back and two carved birds take perch at his side and arm. Santa's staff has these same two birds painted, one on each side. In total the scenes include 7 children, 20 birds, 5 squirrels, 2 dogs, a cat, fox, even a little mouse peeking out of the snowman's straw hat, all uniquly blended in snowy scenes of nature and Christmas fun. Santa has a very pleasant and caring face and eyes. All Russian Santas made for Reasons to Believe are hand carved from solid linden, also known as either basswood or lime in various parts of the world. Once carved and sanded the Santa is hand painted and finished in extraordinary detail with numerous coats and finally signed by the artist.
