This elegant yet subtly whimsical Santa is wonderfully colored and uniquely painted in watercolor. The muted blue and beige tones give a rare vintage feel to this piece. Featured throughout is a serene setting of a small Russian village with log cottages and a church - all with snow laden roofs. The quiet village is surrounded by articulately painted trees cloaked in the winter season's snowfall. The natural and soft character of this Santa begins from a unique tree trunk base and is carried so eloquently throughout this entire work of art. Santa's toybag offers a special scene of country children in wintertime. A little boy in knickers pulls his little sister along in a sled. Their sweet smiles show thier satisfaction in finding and bringing home the perfect Christmas tree. This Russian Santa is completely hand carved from solid linden with traditional carving knives, chissles and gouges. After sanding, each piece is hand painted in detail and signed by the artist. Each of these unique, hand-crafted Santas are a one of a kind work of art.
