Spirit of Christmas - hand carved solid wood and hand painted. A Santa beyond description and an extremely rare Christmas heirloom. The hand carved Russian Santa Claus figures from Nadezdina have some of the most beautiful panting we've ever seen. Hand painted in oils, the skin tones, faces, eyes and expressions are stunning and accurate with unbelievable detail. As is the case with most high-end Russian craft, whether eggs, various carvings, lacquer boxes, etc... they are finished with numerous coats of lacquer to preserve and protect the finish, as well as add to the aesthetics with it's inherent high gloss look. At 20" in height and approximately 16 lbs., this is a large Santa, extremely solid, heavy and very dimensional. Perfectly coordinated coloring with rich tones, real gold-leaf trim and accents. Two little children, a little girl and boy each carrying a Christmas gift are being escorted by an angel through a very frosted and wintery landscape. Santa's split beard frames this beautiful scene on the front of this carving. The other three sides of this Santa have a midnight blue base color with gold leaf trim and a winter village scene with five more children. An older girl tends to the younger boy and girl while another boy and girl are happily sledding. The faces and eyes of each child are beyond words and ample description. Santa also has a large toy basket attached to his back filled with hand-carved and hand-painted ornaments, toys, gifts and a Christmas tree. These toy basket items are all loose and can be placed to your liking - with the exception of the tree, which is pegged. Stunning in all respects, this Santa is signed by the artist, Nadezdina. It is an original oil painted masterpiece on wood.
