Weihnactsmann - German Santa by Pipka. The wonderful world of toyland, baubles and tinsel is of German origin. Everywhere the Germans migrated they brought with them their beloved Christmas traditions. St. Nicholas filled the childrens’ shoes on December 6th, the Saint’s feast day. On Christmas Eve, the Christkindle, or Christ’s little helper brought gifts to children. The Weinachtsmann is accompanied by a gentle friend as he treks through the forests and woodlands throughout the world. He rings his bell as he approaches a village, signaling that Christmas is here.
