Hand carved and hand painted solid wood Santa Claus carving by Susan Mattix. A rare candle stick style Santa with amazing detail in his long beard. He holds a toy bag in one hand and a horn in the other. A couple of candy canes decorate his fur trimmed coat. One of a kind design, signed and dated by Susan Mattix. This piece is carved from jelutong wood, a Malaysian hard wood that can be tapped for latex, which from the 1920's thru the 1960s it's latex was used in chewing gum. Once these trees stop producing their wood is harvested and they are replanted.
