Midnight Traveler by Barbara Scoles. Rarely does one see Santa Claus dressed in such a dark robe other than old world images and Belsnickle figures but this Santa carving is painted and finished beautifully with wood-tone accents and splashes of red and green. A relief carved mountain cabin scene adorns the front of Santa with a little fox sticking his nose out from under Santa’s robe. The carving shows Santa in motion, on his journey with a full pack on his back with a Christmas tree and droopy-eared dog peering out. A black and white cat peers out of Santa’s robe on the back side. Santa carries a walking stick. This piece has wonderful movement to it and is carved and painted in great detail.
